It was fought only between men who had sailed thousands of miles to be there. In a paradoxical sense, the island itself was not the important partit marks as its name suggests. The reason why the japanese decided to attack midway was because they thought it would set up a trap for their own navy. So it was a trap, but in fact,. it was atrap into which the japanes fell themselves.
