The Camera as a Technology, as a Mechanical Device

The camera as a technology emerges out of a wish to see that is being expressed and explored and realized, i would argue, in non photographic means. The book tries to move beyond the history of the mechanical device to look at human impulses to see and represent. I like that it's almost like technology, am has to inhabit an imaginative niche t that necessarily precedes it. You know, we have to want it before we can build it.
