In january 79, there was a road harliers strike which led to shortages. And then there was the haliers strike, which led to food shortages around the country. The other thing that's worth bearing in mind about the winter of discontent of 19 78 79, it was incredibly cold. That january was the coldest since the big frieze of ten 63. There was unreasonably cold in soudy arabia, very warm conditions in the antarctic. But in britain, it feld into this absolutely freezing cold winter.
