The Idea of Adoption and Salvation
The circumcision of the ear is a sign of adoption. A slave who decides to do this is no longer a bond slave, but he what is called a house born slave. The bible's not very concerned with putting people into slavery. It is done as a punishment for sin. You can kind of be sold off to work for a few years to make up restitution. Other than that, the bible is only concerned with how to free those who are in bondage.
