The History of the Special Rating Squadron
The SAS reorganized itself after it had been in the desert and in Tunisia. It changed itself quite significantly. One arm of the now first Special ASO service regiment became known as the Special Rating Squadron, the SRS. In Sicily and Italy, that's what this Special Rating Squadron did. They jumped ashore and stormed enemy positions and they carried out street fighting. That was the commando's jobs and it was never meant to be the SAS's jobs.
