Adam Weishelpt was a young professor of canon law at the University of Ingolstadt in Bavaria. He grew up through the enlightenment period and fell in love with many of its ideas. The Freemasons touted many enlightenment ideas such as separation of church and state. Many famous historical figures were members, including Diderot, Montesquieu, Voltaire,. Lessing, Mozart, even Ben Franklin, and George Washington.
