The Importance of Disruption in Sport
I don't think you can ever eliminate protest from sport, and I personally don't think we should try. What we're dealing with here is groups desperately trying to enter the national conversation who don't have that immediate kind of passageway into Parliament. The feeling around a lot of protest groups is that that just doesn't work anymore. And there was absolutely right just to underline that sense that this televisualization, this increased meditization of sport gets you that direct access into people's homes onto the bat pages. It becomes part of the national conversation in ways which are very, very hard to do.
