How Did Edward Succeed to the Throne?
Ethelred was born into a dynasty that had been expanding their power in england. His father, king edgar, plays a crucial part in consolidating these gains. He is borne into a highly successful political regime with very close relationships with the institutional church. Ethelred comes to the throne somewhat under a cloud, under difficult circumstances. But he seems to be quite a quiet and peaceful period during his early reign.
