What is Proprioceptive Deficit in Organizations?

Organizational proprioception is a framework that describes how leadership perceives your position relative to the market and mission, without needing to constantly monitor you. Proprioceptive deficit occurs when a high performer executes with excellence but remains unaware of how their actions impact adjacent departments, revenue streams, or enterprise-level outcomes. This deficit creates friction, and the leadership team perceives you as a disconnected limb rather than an integrated asset. Correcting proprioceptive deficit requires understanding your connection to the P&L statement and building cross-functional awareness that signals strategic alignment to decision-makers.
