A second cousin found a trunk of letters, nearly 500 letters and family trees. Lily married her Sam just a few weeks before her 21st birthday. They were married until Sam's death in 1921. My granny was the youngest of them by 20 years. And because she's vanished from the history books, like so very many women, trying to piece her life back together has been very challenging. But this is what history is about. History is about putting everybody back in the record,. not just a very partial view of the world and what matters in the world.
