The Role of Professors in Admissions

I think most professors, if you ask them, would you rather have a group of rich students or high quality students? I mean, we've handed over the keys to admissions professionals, for the most part. They are in their own world and they hang out with themselves and they have their own norms that they follow. Do professors need to kind of claw this back or the admissions people who are they responding to? Are they responding to the alums? The status within that group of admissions professionals? Is it financial imperatives imposed on them by the senior administrators?
