The Degradation of the Railways

There's no doubt of course given the magnitude of railway construction that there was some changes and some degradation to the countryside indeed wordsworth was very keen on not having the railways go to the lake district as they would bring in lots of people bringing nasty kind of steam engines. But by and large the railways footprint is really much smaller than subsequent developments like roads and motor ways I mean if you think about it the railways kind of hug the landscape they hug the countryside in, they don't go up and down very much they go through the countryside with intunnels or over bridges wherever possible.
