The History of Wire Taping in the United States
The earliest statute prohibiting wire tapping was written in the state of california in 18 62 a. It's not really until the early twentieth century that, at least in the american context, wire tapping becomes seen as a threat to privacy. The next law is in connecticut in the 18 eighties. This is a law passed following a verya, a salacious affair in involving a sort of multi a family of multi generational wealth and a divorce case involving wire tapped messages. And it's about not protecting the privacy of its customers, but instead protecting the equipment a the telegraph company.
