There were some interesting couples, oddly, that stood out to me. In each case, these sort of privileged sons of aristocracy, their lives were literally saved by incredibly tough men who kept their heads and looked out for them when they could easily have slipped beneath the waves or collapsed. I mentioned the case of the pumping station. The two men who eventually went all the way down there and lit the fuses and came all the way back up were the Second Lieutenant Stuart Chant and Arthur Dockrell - a former choir boy from Eley Cathedral. They went back up with Dockrell carrying his own backpack, Chant's backpack and Chant just holding on to his belt. That was a extraordinary
