What Is Transactional Databases?

The general idea of a transaction has been around mostly unchanged for 40 years. IBM system R, which I've never even heard of prior to this statement, was the very first relational database. So when things started going to no SQL databases, they kind of just left transactions out because the whole point was the scale.
