The Politics of ESG in State Business

Republican lawmakers have filed a record number of bills aimed at restricting the use of ESG considerations in state business. The broader goal is to shield companies, especially in energy producing states from some of the restrictions and shareholder interest that's been on the rise over the last few years. Texas alone has about $400 billion in public employee retirement plans; when a state threatens to pull that chunk of money, "that speaks volumes"
