The Liberal Reform of the 19th Century
In the 19th century, Russia's czar was a liberal. He removed serfdom so people weren't effectively slaves on the estates. After that, all the conservatives came in and said, last thing we want to do is open up. So you had this new paradigm of conservatives which proves just as stupidly rational.
