The Disparity Between Cash and Venmo
One way to ensure that your tip is going directly to whoever provided you a service is to pay them through Venmo, Zell, or another digital payment platform. Most of the time, even the IRS recognizes that when people tip in cash, they're more likely to tip less. "I would expect that when you have separate platforms, so such as Venmo, something like that, I would expect that those numbers would be higher than they would be for cash," she says.
