The Importance of Espionage in the Courtroom
track Smith pulled off a very shrewd maneuver by getting rulings favorable to him in the District of Columbia instead of having those rulings made in Florida. The Espionage Act of 1917 may be the worst statute on the books today. Every liberal, every progressive, every Democrat, every civil libertarian, as opposed to since 1917, when it was used to put war protesters in jail. No mention of the word espionage in that courtroom at all because it will prejudice the jury beyond belief. When you hear espionage, what do you think? You think spying.
