Soth: It seems like an odd structure to have a whole bunch of gas giants that are lined up close to the end. Is there some reason for that? No, i agree. Possible explanation is that it's very hard to form a jupiter very close to the host star. Most likely they formed at large radii and then migrated inwards due to interactions with other planets or interactions with the star. We don't know which of those is right. But if a j Jupiter did migrate inward, as you can imagine, it would be pretty unhealthy for any terrestrial planets like earth, and mars that were in its way.
