How Should We Handle Brands in Our Writing?

Many words we consider generic nouns are actually trade marked names. Even if you're writing about a specific product, you don't have to include its trade mark symbol. Rather than telling readers to bake mack in cheese in a pi rex, suggest they use an oven safe casserole dish. The exception to this rule would be if you'reWriting fiction or narrative non fiction and want to use a specific brand for effect.
