i think that most people associate the panthers with brother hughe newton and that initial group. But there were, i think, different periods of leadership that we don't hear about too often in history books, like with sister elaan brown. When you joined the party, what was happening in terms of leadership? Well, in the early seventies, which is about the time that i join the party, the party, w w, was changing tactics because of the heavy losses that had been taken earlier. So a people were were very aware that this was a life and death endeavor, and acted accordingly.
