The Rise and Fall of the CIA
William Donovan had a huge influence in the creation of the CIA. The CIA has a special award named for him to the present day. He's just still regarded as an icon from this period. But President Truman was not keen on Donovan. There was a family feud going on between them because Donovan was supposedly having an affair with Truman's daughter-in-law. Another figure in the background was Hoover, who was determined to develop his foreign capability and be in charge of central intelligence. People thought he was trying to establish an American Gestapo. We should probably say, well, Jesus, this is J. Edgar Hoover, is it?
