The Long History of National Security and Climate Change
Climate change is an uncomfortable fit both descriptively and normatively with what we traditionally think of as national security challenges. There are substantial reasons why you might want to be careful about overframing this in the national security vocabulary. The military that funded the basic science necessary to understand climate change all the way back as early as the 1940s. Military funding helped establish the first carbon dioxide monitoring stations in Hawaii and in Antarctica.
