What's the Biggest Flaw in MMP?
New Zealand still tends to think of our system as in a bipartisan way. A lot of people are looking at our election and thinking that it's essentially a contest between two political parties or even more narrowly between two political leaders. That isn't really what MMP was intended for, but we've tended to stick with that old view of national versus labour. Germany has ended up on several occasions with grand coalitions between what in New Zealand would equate to a labour national coalition or national labour,. whichever way around you want to put it.
