The Great War of 1936

Jiang Kai-shek knew the whole CCP party center was in and around Yanan. He had two armies to deal with them: The Northwest army under Yang Hu-chang and the Northeast army, the Dongbei Jun,. They called him the Yang Marshall or Shao-shur because in 1936, he was all of 35 years old. Joe Enlai met with the young Marshall for five hours on April 6, 1936. This marked the beginning of their gradual control of China's industrial, trading, and transportation, heartland.
