When do you know when to give up? People ask me this all the time. I think most of life is about becoming or creating who we are. You're 100% in charge of this person that you get to be. The realities are pretty clear. Either you have to find out what people want, and then give that to them in a way where it connects. Lewis Hyde writes about this in his book. He says art exists in two economies, the gift economy and the market economy. It's based on this idea of reciprocity. And not every artist is willing to do that,. wants to do that, or even should do that.
