In the 1990s there was this idea Italians were victims too but the left didn't want to talk about it so after the fall of the Communist Party what we in fact have is a kind of zombie anti-communism that seeks to revisit World War II and say well actually the resistance they've committed lots of crimes too. What we see in Italy I think is also comparable to the the memory culture of countries like Hungary, Poland, Lithuania where it's as if Italy was subject to this long Communist hegemony.
