Slavery was virginia's most profitable indust so there was a great demand. Robert lincan had younger brothers, at least two of whom also became slave traders. The jail complex that he was known for was said to be one of the most prominent features in richmond. There was a forty one foot jail at the centre of a plot that held well over a hundred enslave people at a time. A two story brick house faced the street and there was a large boarding house or hotel for visiting enslavers as well as an auction house.
