Because of the Cold War, America was more often than not ready to highlight its technological prowess rather than keep it a secret. Planes like the A-12 and the SR-71 Blackbird were so far ahead of their time that their appearance not only shocked people but were so far beyond their comprehension that they needed to make the leap to an extraterrestrial cause.
