The American Self-Image and Reality of Who We Are
I think there's a chasm between the core of the American self-image and the reality of who we are. I find it very hard to explain to a child why they have to get one-third as much educational resources as someone else, because mommy and daddy's house is less expensive. In America, your parent's income has the greatest predictive power over your income of any of the other rich countries. And so at the very heart of America in this moment today, is we are not who we think we are.
