Nelson's death means that he avoids any of the political controversies that Wellington has to deal with after the battle. Nelson's funeral is this massive event in the middle of the war to sort of reaffirm national loyalty and national identity while we mourn a hero. There is no monument to Waterloo or Wellington, akin to Trafalgar Square or Nelson's column.
