Mao and Joe weren't so sure Kim Il Song's best laid plans were going to turn out like he said. A week after the invasion, Joe met with the Soviet ambassador to inform him that China had nine divisions ready at the North Korean border. Joe's message was that in the event that the US led coalition crossed the 38th parallel into North Korea, he'd use them. The Korean War was going to be his last military assignment. We always look at Joe more as a statesman and a diplomat than we do a military man.
