The German Sentry and the Submarines
Two midget subs were sent to mark the outer limits of british and canadian beaches. They had to stay submerged all day, sleeping on the sea bed for 24 hours. The oxygen supplies are limited so they're getting increasingly drowsy. At one point a german sentry spooks them by firing his periscope at something in the water. It's an amazing story that has never been told before. But i'm pretty convinced in my own mind that they made a material difference to the rits and the canadians and their beaches. As i have already suggested, this is vitally important with a strong coast line like normandy.
