The Capital Building, the Temple of Liberty
The capital building owed its existence in part to slave labory. Congress passed a resolution baptizing, re baptizing part of the capital building as emancipation hall. Both republicans and democratsas strongly supported it. Because slaves were not white, they therefore did not have a wall to play in this national narrative. And i would argue that one way it's been has been by, in effect, emphasizing that freedom exists, but freedom is for white people.
