With the presidency of lyndon johnson, more than that of kennedy, lindon johnson passed some central bills. And nothing was more important, if i would argue, tat this remain so to this day, than the political enfranchisement african americans. So in many ways, 19 65 iste ultimate or of a vision of freedom that is post racial. But there is also a reaction against this vision that it comes out of the regan era, that sees the rise of a new southern conservatism which fights for continued vision of freedom as ultimately belonging to whites.
