Before 18 forty five, ireland was exporting enough corn to britain to feed two million people. Most of those rich food stuffs were being exported to the industrial masses of manchester and preston. So why did famine occur in a country that ashe was producing a massive agricultural surplus? And it comes back to your very first question, you this food was being exported. And again, why some people are reluctant to use the word famine. But just to come back to the quest of corn and the question of potatoes, because we always talk about potatoes in ireland,. they were important, but only accounted for about 20 % of agricultural output.
