Grover Cleveland in many ways was a better president because of what he didn't do with the power of the presidency, how he chose to restrain things through the veto rather than expand federal power massively. There are big dead zones in American history that even the educated lay person does not understand pretty well partially because Americans tell a lot of their historical stories through the vehicle of the presidency.
