The City of the Future
The car industry's vision of the future is that people live in these suburbs, and then drive on highways into the cities. They would knock down whole neighborhoods usually minority neighborhoods, because they go while the property prices are lowest there. So yes, that's one of the ways that the car really changes the texture o modern life. And we've got mediaeval street layouts here, but we've got sort of suburban sprawl around them in many cases.
