In 1243 the Mongols invaded what would be modern day Turkey and they conquered that after winning a major battle against the Anatolian Seljuks. The next really big wave of invasions occurred from 1256 onwards and this was another major army led by a Mongol command called Huligu. This is also the army that is particularly well known for its conquest of Baghdad in 1258, a particularly brutal overthrow which with enormous loss of life.
