Adding Depth to a Sound
Saturation is any sort of like anything that limits the signal or lessens the difference between the loudest and the softest parts, which saturation does. It's actually flattening the sound, yes, but because you hear more of the deep level information, it sounds deeper to you. And then also, saturation adds harmonic juice. So it literally just amps up the amount of energy that you're listening to. For every frequency, there's one, two, three, four more frequencies that are added across the whole spectrum, all the im. That increases the density and sparkle on things, and it helps you to notice other frequencies that you you might miss otherwise.
