The Warships of the English Fleet
In addition to the navy, royal elizabeth's fleet had 52 large merchant ships hired for their crews. The city of london paid for leasing a further 30 ships. There were 26 coastal ships in addition to its warships. So the english fleet therefore numbered 208 ships of all types, with 16 thousand crews. And as i said, right at the start, despite some beliefs, it was actually larger than armada.
