The Marriage of Marguerite and Jacques Le Gris
Jacques Le Gris and Marguerite de Carouge were married in 1386. While her husband was away fighting for France, he allegedly had an affair with the wife of a rival nobleman. He sought legal action against him but would have to prove his claims through testimony fromMarguerite. The only evidence that could be used at this time was the word of Marguerite. She told it all to her husband who then appealed directly to the king. This request was highly unusual even in 14th century France. It captured the attention of French court and became the talk of all the nobility.
