The Importance of Human Trafficking in the Mediterranean

In June, a fishing trawler thought to have been carrying over 700 people sank off the coast of Greece. Hundreds are still missing, feared drowned. A survey at the end of last year found that almost two-thirds of Pakistani boys and men between the ages of 15 and 24 would like to leave their country. The police are trying to stop the people smugglers, but as Caroline Davis has been finding, this does not seem to be much of a deterrent.
