The Role of Genetic Selection in Designing Babies
We've been practicing genetic selection at a subconscious level through human history. We track partners that are more likely to be fertile and beauty is correlated with signals of fertility. Even with the best partners in the world we still will have some embryos and fetuses with much shorter straws than others. So it seems to me we can select out a characteristic that is unattractive but when we're talking about designing a baby we'retalking about a cluster of different features which operate together. The important fact is that all biology is distributed unequally. It's just a curve. And what matters is how likely a particular biological feature is going to be to how well our life goes.
