The Nisei's Struggle for Civil Rights
The Nisei children were excited to be Americans and they considered themselves full-fledged Americans. They had a kind of a schizophrenia as Gordon described it, that they went through their daily life proud of being Americans but at the same time daily encountering prejudice against them. Their parents experienced it too in the form legally of the alien land laws, which forbid Japanese immigrants from owning land. And he took it very much to heart, even as a child, when he first studied about the Constitution in school.
