Each party thinks will either be in power forever and as a mandate to do whatever the hell it wants because the american people have finally spoken with an authoritative voice. They think our hold on power is so tenuous that we have to do all the stuff we can do and swing for the fences as much as possible,. Because we'll lose power soon enough.
