Cromwell's Persecuting of Catholics
On the whole Cromwell's own party were thrilled over his butchery at Drochader in Wexford. But he actually doesn't like persecuting people for their religious beliefs no matter who they are, says Lord Tebbit. A 17th century pamphlet suggests it's been claimed that Cromwell might not entirely deserve his reputation as a Rufus persecutor of Catholics in Ireland. He writes to a French minister boasting about how he's made life easier for English Catholics since he took over.
