The Role of Roger Montgomery in the Invasion of Normandy
William of Poitier and Audrey Vitalis say that the invasion fleet assembled in Dif-sur-Mere. The ship list has him recorded providing 60 ships, which is about 8% of the fleet. Roger Montgomery was also Vicon of the Himmour, which is the name of this region. So I think that therefore as sort of a trusted magnate of duke-william within his role as this major administrator in this region, he was perfectly placed to feed potentially 8,000 men and 2,000 horses while they were waiting allegedly for the weather.
