The Role of Cyclooxygenase Activity in Osteoidastiomas
An increase in cyclooxygenase activity has been demonstrated with osteoidastiomas. Other important pain mediators like glutamate, adenosine triphosphate, insulin-like growth factor, and prostaglandin E2 are released from damaged tissue but not directly synthesized by osteoids. NSAIDs themselves act to inhibit the Cox enzymes through competitive binding with the enzyme active site.
